This lot is leasehold for a term of 1,000 years, from the 

8th July 1862, and is subject to a Ground Rent of £7 8s 2  3d.

THEFT OF A BARREL, etc.

John Hall was charged with stealing a barrel, a brewing can, and two taps, valued at £1, the joint property of Thomas Watson of the British Standard beer-house, Brackenbury Street, and John Roe of the Keystone beer-house, from the former place, on Thursday last.

Mr. Dunn applied for a remand in order to give the case a little further investigation, and the prisoner was therefore remanded until Tuesday.

A POUND A TOOTH

William Barnes, a painter, was summoned by Alfred Walmsley, for

having assaulted him in the British Standard public house,

Brackenbury Street, on Thursday week.

From the evidence of several witnesses on behalf of the complainant

it appeared that on the day named, the defendant, along with the 

complainant and several other men were in the British Standard public

house.

The landlord, Mr. Watson, happened to be asleep on the sofa. They 

had not been in the kitchen very long when Mr. Watson awoke, and 

as he was drawing a fire up to the fire, the complainant got hold of him

in a friendly way and lifted him on the sofa. The defendant thought

they were fighting, and said he would not have a grey-headed man

abused, and smote the complainant on the mouth, knocking three of

his teeth out.

The magistrates wished the case to be decided amicably, but no

decision being come to, they fined Barnes £3 and costs, or in default, 

one month's imprisonment.
